TANZANIAN ASSOCIATION OF QUEENSLAND (TAQ)
Celebrating Tanzanian Spirit, Strength, and Solidarity in Australia
Who We Are
The Tanzanian Association of Queensland (TAQ) is more than just a community group, it is the beating heart of the Tanzanian spirit here in Queensland, Australia.
We are a gathering place for Tanzanians, their families, and friends from all walks of life who share a love for the culture, language, and stories of our homeland. Whether you’ve just arrived in Australia, or your family has been here for decades, TAQ provides a space where you are understood, celebrated, and embraced.
We exist to unite, uplift, and empower our community while proudly showcasing the beauty of Tanzanian culture to the wider world. Rooted in uhuru (freedom), umoja (unity), and utu (humanity), our association reflects the warmth of our people, the strength of our traditions, and the bold hope we carry into the future.
TAQ draws its spirit from the richness of Tanzanian culture, where storytelling, community bonds, and hospitality are a way of life. We are inspired by the diversity of over 120 tribes, the resilience of our people, and the pride we feel in our roots. From the rhythms of ngoma drums to timeless Swahili proverbs, every detail of Tanzanian life reminds us of where we come from, and why it matters.
From the peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro to the shores of Zanzibar, we carry our heritage with pride, sharing it through cultural events, language classes, and support networks for new and established migrants. Our members come together to preserve the traditions of Tanzania, through language, food, music, dress, and storytelling, while also building meaningful connections within the Australian multicultural mosaic.
TAQ ensures that the Tanzanian soul lives and breathes in the next generation.
Our Team
Our Vision
To be a beacon of Tanzanian pride and unity in Australia, a space where culture is preserved, connections are nurtured, and every voice is valued. We envision a future where the Tanzanian-Australian community thrives across generations, remaining rooted in identity while embracing opportunity.
Our Mission
To create a strong, inclusive community where Tanzanians and their families feel seen, supported, and celebrated, while nurturing the traditions, languages, and stories that define who we are. TAQ is built on the foundation of ujamaa (togetherness), a concept deeply rooted in Tanzanian society since independence. We strive to recreate that same sense of unity and belonging here in Queensland, offering both a support system and a cultural anchor for those far from home.
